grahh all the talk about AI imaging right now is so upsetting to me. ontop of the ethical problems like using artists' work and peoples' likenesses as training data without their permission, artistic value comes from human intent, and is about so much more than just the final product. i am not AT ALL interested in a song, painting, poem, animation or any other piece of art made by a computer or an algorithm just because of the end product.

(side note: this is all putting aside the concept of art made with a genuine creativity by a sentient and artistic artificial intelligence, because that's not a thing right now.)

to be fair, i think there is emotional and artistic value to be found in someone going "this is what a computer thinks human art is like, we should think about that and what that means. it's interesting BECAUSE it was made by a computer" or other very specific applications of AI imaging, but that is really not what it's being used for. art is about the process, and the emotion put into the art, and the emotion coming out of the art from the viewer's perspective and interpretation of it. i just think it's all really upsetting to see art perverted like this :/ and i think AI imaging, if used right, could be a really valuable and ethical tool, as well as any other form of AI, it has its uses to genuinely help humanity if we used it right. but it shouldn't be in the world of art. and because we live under capitalism, you know it's going to be used (and is already being used) by production companies to hire fewer artists, to cut costs, and profit more. i know the world of art has always been hostile towards artists, and this is just another part of that. but it's still upsetting. i know we'll still have great art made by real people who really care, and really want to create, but it'll be harder for them to create what they want. anyway idk why i ranted about all this it's just on my mind a lot and it upsets me to see people so enthusiastic that AI imaging is the future of art or some shit like that.
