i am so in love with videos of strangers playing or enjoying music together. it is absolutely human nature to love trust and care about each other and these videos showcase that so clearly and vibrantly and it makes me so happy and excited every time i see it. music is such a deeply emotional and human thing, and it's such a unique form of art. it's so natural and such a participatory thing. other forms of art don't carry the same spontaneity and universality as music. you could set up a canvas in public for people to paint together, paper for people to write together, any other form of expression, that would all be cool, but it's not quite the same as jumping unprompted into song with a stranger. anyone can hum a song from memory even if you don't know exactly what notes they are, you don't need knowledge of theory to feel music, and just hearing it makes us want to move, or sing along. i think it's really wonderful and beautiful.
